“A huge part of my career development is down to the supportive team I have had.”

  • Why did you apply to work for us?

I applied to work for boohoo four and a half years ago when boohoo was becoming a leading fashion retailer within the industry. As a brand, boohoo stood out as it was not your traditional bricks & mortar merchandising function and I wanted to be a part of something new and different, I wanted to be a part of change!

  • What’s the best thing about working for us?

The best thing about working for boohoo is the culture and environment! The work culture is so positive to be amongst. No matter how busy your day or week can get, being around the team we have here at boohoo makes it so much better! You are never bored, there is always a new project happening and seeing the outcome of the projects is so rewarding!

  • How would you describe the culture?

The type of culture at boohoo is what makes working for boohoo different. We are a team, and a team where long-term friendships form. You feel included and supported and from that we promote each other’s achievements and progression.

  • What do you get up to in your role?

Day-to-day the role is different with how reactive we need to be as a brand. On a weekly basis I begin the week pulling trade notes and actions, followed by rebuys, pricing and updating the WSSI Report. I will need to pull any other data and/or analysis for senior management and post-trade meetings. Other tasks will include intake management and general day-to-day admin. All in all, the role is numbers and data driven in excel.

  • How has your career developed since you’ve worked here?

I started with boohoo on a University Placement Scheme as a Merchandising Admin Assistant. In my final year studies, I continued working for the brand on a part-time basis. After graduation I returned to full-time hours and was promoted to Assistant Merchandiser Level 1 and now to Level 2. In amongst those roles changes I have worked on different departments, Accessories, Beauty, Footwear, Home, Knitwear, Maternity, Petite, Plus and Tops. It is so valuable to get experience on different departments as the approach to managing the stock can be different from department to department.

  • Have you been offered any training, networking or workshops?

Training is an integral part of the brand. A huge part of my career development is down to the supportive management and wider team I have had. I’ve always felt as though I could ask for help or ask for the someone to show me something new even if it was something I wouldn’t necessarily need to know as I wouldn’t manage that task at my level. It’s always good to know what tasks are managed at the different levels and how they all have an impact on one another. Everyone no matter what level has tips and tricks and there is always something new to be learnt and everyone will find the time to help one another.

  • What's been your biggest achievement/proudest moment so far?

My proudest moment to date is being promoted through the merchandising levels. I have worked my way from the bottom up and I’m proud see how much I have developed personally and professionally within the business.

  • What makes someone successful here?

You need to be willing to work as a team, we all help and support each other and that is how we grow, as individuals, as a team, and as a brand. No two days is the same, so organisation and time management is key, you need to be able to re-organise and prioritise at any given time with how reactive we are as a business, different challenges may come your way, so be willing to work hard and be determined to keep going in order progress.

  • What do you think makes us unique as an employer?

We work hard and we are rewarded! (You could say work hard-play harder as we do love a partyyyy!) As much as this is a reward it really allows us to network and build upon existing working relationships or create new ones.

  • Describe working here in 3 words.

    Challenging. Diverse. Rewarding.

  • Why should top talent join us instead of a competitor?

Here at boohoo, we have a lot of fab benefits. We have a variety of schemes; bonus, shares such as Save As You Earn and Cycle to Work. We have a health cash plan which helps towards everyday healthcare bills. In terms of the merchandising role itself, you’ll be multi-skilled in a range of merchandising areas. Our merchandising function at boohoo is trade and product focused and we work closely with the Buying & Marketing functions of the business which not all competitors will offer and there is opportunity to progress. As well as this, with all the hard work we put in we have regular social events, staff discount and 25 days holiday.
