“In my fairly short time at boohoo, everybody has made me feel welcome even though we have mostly been working from home.”
-
Why did you apply to work for us?
I applied to work for boohoo because of the opportunities working for a company growing at this pace would present me. Combined with the scope of change required from a sustainability perspective, boohoo offered the chance to make a real change.
-
What’s the best thing about working for us?
The culture. Working at boohoo is fast-paced and the business is always changing which is what makes it so exciting. There is a buzz when walking through the office and the company is never standing still. I am yet to experience the social aspect but I have heard the parties are pretty special!
-
How would you describe the culture?
It sounds like a cliché, but the culture really is fast-paced but rewarding. If something needs doing, it gets done quickly and the whole business feels as though it is striving to achieve big things. In my fairly short time at boohoo, everybody has made me feel welcome even though we have mostly been working from home.
-
What do you get up to in your role? What makes it different compared with other similar roles you’ve had?
My role is to reduce the environmental impact boohoo has on the world. My primary areas of focus are climate change, waste and the environmental performance of our suppliers. I work with almost every team across boohoo, all the brands and multiple external stakeholders to try and change the way we operate in order to minimise our environmental footprint. My role is a mixture of project and change management, stakeholder engagement and training teams on sustainability topics.
-
How has your career developed since you’ve worked here?
Although new to the company, I have already been given a huge amount of responsibility. Within my first four months I have made significant contributions to our sustainability report, annual report, carbon commitments and project managed a number of sustainability projects. boohoo are also keen to offer training opportunities where required and there is a lot of exposure to senior management.
-
What’s been your biggest achievement/proudest moment so far?
Helping to build our Sustainability Strategy and Sustainability Report. Both had never been created or published by boohoo before, so it was an exciting experience and created history within the company. The team achieved this in a short space of time and set the business some challenging goals.
-
What makes someone successful here?
To be successful at boohoo, you need to be a self-starter and be able to react quickly to change. There is always something new happening at boohoo so it is not a steady 9-5.
-
What do you think makes us unique as an employer?
boohoo is unique in that whilst it is now a large company by most standards, it still has the spirit and energy of a smaller, entrepreneurial company. The desire to make things happen and to grow whilst offering the same benefits of working for a smaller company such as responsibility, a fun culture and fast growth.
