“There is always a buzz to the office and one week is different to the next.”
Why did you apply to work for us?
I came to Dorothy Perkins, then owned by Arcadia, for its staple spot on the high street with a dedicated customer base. I liked that the design aesthetic was feminine with a nod to trend. Since being bought by boohoo and becoming online only, from a designer’s perspective the role has become much more exciting.
What’s the best thing about working for us?
I would say there are two things. First is that the sky is the limit, you can push for new and elevated product on your department, and now being online only there aren’t as many boundaries.
Secondly, are the people – we are like a big family here.
How would you describe the culture?
Fast-paced; there is always a buzz to the office and one week is different to the next. There is also a great social side, boohoo know how to throw a party!
What do you get up to in your role? What makes it different compared with other similar roles you’ve had?
In Design we are pretty much involved from start to finish with the product, from sourcing inspiration and fabrics, sketching the designs, selecting prints, making adjustments to garments, up until going to the Press Office and onto shoots. It’s a really creative and hands-on role, working closely with my buying and print teams. There is also a lot of travel!
How has your career developed since you’ve worked here?
I have worked across multiple departments in my three and a half years here, which has been great for my development and personal growth. However, I have really found my home on the dresses department, which led to my promotion to Senior Designer seven months ago.
What’s been your biggest achievement/proudest moment so far?
Recently I would say our Jess Wright edit campaign. It’s also been a bit of a ‘pinch me’ moment seeing my styles on advertisement billboards and tube posters!
What makes someone successful here?
Drive and innovation.
What do you think makes us unique as an employer?
It’s a very open-door policy at boohoo, all ideas are welcome. And these ideas can become a reality very quickly. There is also no hierarchy, that is something they really promote here.
Describe working here in 3 words.
Forward-thinking and fun.
