“Recognition of your efforts motivates you to continuously strive to be better.”

  • Why did you apply to work for us?

I started working for the boohoo group eight years ago. This was before we became a PLC. I actually started as a temporary member of staff coming into the business through a third party recruitment company. Whilst I expected to leave to undertake my LPC I never did, enjoyed it too much!

  • What’s the best thing about working for us?

Work hard, play hard. Whist the expectation is to always work hard the company knows how to throw a party.

  • How would you describe the culture?

    Flexible, motivating and team orientated.

  • What do you get up to in your role? What makes it different compared with other similar roles you’ve had?

No day is the same. I did previously work solely on the legal side which was heavily focused on contracts. I like the variety of what Procurement offers. We do the full end to end process of sourcing. This begins with the relevant stakeholders outlining their requirement. Speaking with various suppliers through to negotiation of the contract in terms of commercials and contract clauses. My previous role did not offer this.

  • How has your career developed since you’ve worked here?

I started off as a Procurement Assistant on a temporary contract. Since then I have been promoted four times to now be Head of my department, Head of Procurement. I now develop the strategy for the team within the wider business. Due to my knowledge of how the boohoo group operates I can ensure that all of our process and strategies work for the business. Equally progression within the Procurement team is key for me. As a manager I am very team focused and their wellbeing plays a big part in my strategy. If the team feels motivated, retention will be higher, worker performance will be improved which then leads to progression within the department.

  • What’s been your biggest achievement/proudest moment so far?

My proudest moment so far is gaining the recognition from the C-suite that they felt I was capable of delivering as Head of my department. I also got nominated for employee of the year. Recognition of your efforts motivates you to continuously strive to be better.

  • What makes someone successful here?

Working hard, having strong stakeholder management skills. boohoo is a fast-paced business which requires us to “take a view” on a project basis. How do we deliver the projects in the timeframes permitted, which offers the best value, and delivers the requirements the stakeholder requires. If you do not know what the stakeholder wants you are not close enough to them. Procurement requires strong interpersonal skills. Clear communication is key to manage expectations. Failure to do so will not deliver the results required.

  • What do you think makes us unique as an employer?

boohoo was the first online fast fashion retailer. The growth is unrivalled and as so many people here including myself have been here for a long time due to the family feel of the business.

  • Describe working here in 3 words.

    Fun. Rewarding. Collaborative.
