As Legal Counsel your role will be to assist the Head of Group Legal and General Counsel in advising on general legal matters across the boohoo group plc. The role will support them in reporting to the operating board, plc board and the non-executive directors.

The role will be varied and diverse. You’ll have opportunity to work on challenging but satisfying matters and really feel part of a commercial team that is driving the business forward. The business is passionate, entrepreneurial, and driven and there is an expectation that you will work with that ethos.

We are more than just Lawyers; yes, we are the go-to people for legal advice but it’s also fair to say we influence our brands in many other ways and our approach and attitude means the Group values our opinion.

We support our brands however we can, whether that means we’re rocking the new Boohoo x Barbie collection, staying locked into the latest celeb culture news, or giving our views on who should be the next ‘face of’, we really get stuck into the business and we are looking for someone who shares the same enthusiasm as us.

We are an incredibly hard-working and ambitious team, who is looking for someone to support our team of Lawyers, but also bring their own individual flair and personality to the role.

  • You will take active ownership in managing and supporting the Legal team in completing and advising on all legal matters across the group.  The nature of the business will mean the role will require involvement in matters which are outside a strict ‘legal’ role and it’s important you’re able to embrace this.
  • You will provide legal advice on a range of contentious and non-contentious matters across the business. This may include commercial contracts, data protection, advertising, corporate, consumer law, employment, intellectual property, property, and litigation. As we’ve said, the business is incredibly agile and it’s likely a wide range of matters will arise which require our support.
  • Take an active role in determining and implementing the Legal team strategy and working with the business to drive the individual brand strategies and support on the groups M&A strategy.
  • Ensure the team are improving and updating our precedent templates and processes. Proactively thinking about how we can improve what and how we do things.
  • Prepare and deliver business wide training across a variety of topics.
  • Stay up to date with new legislation and key developments in our market to ensure the business is briefed and ready for any changes.

Team & Management

  • You will have the opportunity to supervise and work closely with the legal counsel team and the in-house trainee.
  • You will lead by example and be a great peer for the team. You’ll help to continue to grow the credibility of the Legal team, which is already well established and highly respected across the group.
  • Identify the need for external legal advice and exercise appropriate cost management and control when using external advisors. We understand that we can’t be experts at everything, and the support and resource is there if you need it.
  • Work proactively to identify training needs across the legal team and support their development and growth.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external legal advisors.
  • Project manage key projects to ensure they are being driven forward.

  • Qualified and practising solicitor.
  • We’re not focused on PQE but rather the output you deliver. Whilst it would be beneficial for an individual to have 3+ years PQE this is not essential for the role. We would still love to hear from you if you think this is an opportunity for you.
  • In-house experience at an ecommerce business and/or strong commercial contract experience is highly desirable but not essential.
  • It’s crucial that you have a positive ‘can do’ attitude and willingness to just get stuck in. We’re a team that doesn’t like to say no, we like to advise with a solution led focus rather than present problems!

The role will closely work with several different business operations across a variety of territories. We have 13 different brands - it’s busy! So, it is important you’re able to adapt to different people, situations and areas of advice and have fun along the way.

You must be capable of working to tight deadlines and under pressure. As such, you must be responsive, proactive, and able to effectively manage deadlines and stakeholders.

To succeed here, you must love working at pace. It’s relentless, but we love it. Change is a certainty – you need to adapt and be agile. We want you to challenge the status quo, innovate and be open to trying new things. We’re always pushing boundaries. We empower our people, giving them freedom and autonomy to learn and grow in their roles. We’re passionate, agile, creative and one team.

We’ve set our sights on dominating the global e-commerce fashion market, and because we’re 13 brands (and counting), there are plenty of opportunities to grow your career. Our mission is to create a workplace where everyone is respected, their individual differences are valued, and they can be themselves at work without exception.
