“Its cliché but no two days are the same and its always about what’s next.”

Why did you apply to work for us?
I applied to work here because I think boohoo has a bright future. It’s a transparent and ambitious business that shares my own goals when it comes to sustainability and global markets. The businesses infrastructure is world class: its social media, supply chain and distribution network combines to create industry leading speed to market. It’s no secret that boohoo wants to be the global leader in fashion for product, people & the planet and its investments in infrastructure give it every chance of doing so.

What’s the best thing about working for us?
I would say the best thing about working here is that it is fast-paced and forward thinking. Its cliché but no two days are the same and its always about what’s next. Being a business that trades 24/7, lots of things can come up unexpectedly so if you enjoy variety and always being busy then you’ll fit right in.
-
How would you describe the culture?
It’s inclusive and open to new people and ideas. Management makes a real effort to encourage the opinions of all employees, and new employees are encouraged to get stuck in which I think is key to conquering the learning curve and for anyone with little experience.
-
What do you get up to in your role?
There are a number of recurring tasks that myself & Assistant Merchandiser’s carry out e.g. working on the WSSI. However, I’ve found that most tasks are ad-hoc so the role has a lot of variety. It’s a broad and intuitive function – one day you might be building new reports and tools; another you’re using accounting methods to calculate profit or even using algebra to rebalance formulas.
-
How has your career developed since you’ve worked here?
Hugely. I joined boohoo in late August with little experience in Merchandising after finishing my Law & Business degree. Joining the business as it geared up for peak, boohoo offered me an opportunity to test myself and helped me to quickly familiarise myself with the department and key principles. When I first started, I was actualising & updating working documents. Now, I’m able to read these documents and spot or pre-empt issues and put forward solutions. I’ve also been given a good level of responsibility when possible. For example, in just my third week, I got to sit in Merch Meetings with our Managers & Directors whilst my manager was on holiday and also got to oversee trade for the department. This, I feel (and hope!) helped me to show my commercial thinking.
-
What’s been your biggest achievement/proudest moment so far?
I would say it was when I got to oversee trade and we had a poor start to the week in terms of sales - so to help boost sales, I put together a promo proposal by identifying & targeting key mix categories that were underperforming on the week. As a result, we improved cash sales on the week with minimal impact on margin.
-
What makes someone successful here?
Organisation. Commercial-thinking. Being an effective communicator. Working across functions (e.g. working with Marketing to ensure we optimise products with enough stock).
-
What do you think makes us unique as an employer?
boohoo offers all employees an opportunity to learn a way of working that is uniquely fast and to be a part of something that has the potential to be truly global. It’s an extremely rewarding place to learn & work for anyone who shares its ambitions and wants to have fun while doing so!
